Freelance Contributors

Work Shift is expanding, and we’re looking to grow our roster of regular freelance reporters. We are primarily looking for freelancers who are interested in building a relationship with our outlet and having ongoing assignments, but we also are open to discrete pitches if you’ve got an idea for a news story or analysis piece that needs telling.
Our focus is on covering the connections (and misconnections) between education and work. Work Shift’s readers are decision makers and thought leaders in policy, higher education and K12, industry, and philanthropy.
Experience covering higher education or business is highly preferred. But we are also open to working with K12 reporters or experienced freelancers who are interested in covering this space and are quick learners on new beats. For examples of the kind of work our contributors do, see recent stories like this and this.

Send your resume and links to past work to Editor Elyse Ashburn at elyse@workshift.org, along with a paragraph or two about the reporting topics that most interest you.
